Saying goodbye... sort of.
Whenever someone gets a new job, whether it’s from a career change, finding a new place to earn a living, or (like in this case) an internal promotion within the same company, there is left some “collateral damage” so to speak… and that damage is me.
Don’t get me wrong I am more than elated that our own “Wake Up Call, News Guru” Joe Thomas will be the head honcho at The Sports Hub 102.3, NBC Sports Radio starting Monday! He has earned all the respect and authority that goes with a management spot because of his professionalism, dedication, commitment to the medium of radio, and his excellent work… but dammit, it’s hard to imagine him no longer being a part of our broadcast.
Yes, I’m being selfish by turning this around to talk about a co-workers great success being kinda sad, but I like working with the guy, and even though he'll be in the same office and 3 doors down from me, frankly I’ll miss him.
Joe was a fixture of the Froggy morning show for about fifteen years, virtually since its inception, and has always made it better just by being a part of it. He not only read the news but made it relatable with a smooth style and kind delivery that would’ve make Cronkite smile. He brought an asset to the morning drive slot that will be not soon forgotten, and I wish him amazing happiness and huge success as he enters his new post, but do it with much sadness for us as a crew because of the giant hole that will be left from his departure.
To you Mr. Joe Thomas I say: Congratulations; you’ve earned this! You will now not only work in the medium you love most, Sports Radio, but you will be the man at the helm of a new radio station, and I know how awesome that post is (having done it myself). Enjoy the work, the new hours that’ll give you more time with your beautiful family, and thank you for the years you gave to us… but know this, I will be in your office until you throw me out of it on a weekly (if not more frequent) basis!
