I stink.... literally

So last night I came home from work , and made dinner. A simple dinner, chicken grilled in a pan, with garlic, and some broccoli. Now if you have ever cooked chicken on the grill. you will understand there is some smoke that goes with the cooking, and if you have cooked with garlic, than you know that the smell will stick to clothes.

Now, mix both the smell of smoke AND garlic together, and you have a nasty smell on clothes. How do I know? Well, as I type this, I can smell it! See, I usually come home and change into something more comfortable (sounds sexy, its not, just mesh shorts and a cut off.) and start to cook. Well last night, I got home late, and didn't feel like changing first. So I cooked, ate, and then changed. This morning I woke up, and I threw on my shorts from yesterday (Seeing how I only wore them once this week) and left.

Well, there I was. Sitting here, shooting a training video (a story for a later date) and I keep getting a whiff of something gross. I keep thinking, who the hell stinks. Then I realize what I'm smelling...... Chicken and broccoli.... its me! Now I', hiding in the studio, hoping I see no one, because lets face it, no one likes the smelly guy at work!

Cd Review: Cole Swindell's, "You should be here".

Cole Swindell's" You should be here", is his second album to date, filled with 12 tracks and running a little over 48 minutes. The cd has already racked up#1 single with the track, "You should be here", so how does the rest of the album stack up, find out below, as I review each track!
Track 1. Flatliner (Featuring Dierks Bentley): Right out of the gate, Cole Swindell gives you a fast paced rocker, with Flatliner. We are greeted to a heart rate monitor going flat, followed by some kicking drums, and then guitars. Out of the 12 tracks on the cd, this one maybe my favorite. Unlike other guest appearances, Dierks Bentley has his own verse and isn't just appearing as a backup vocalist. You also get some funny banter between Cole and Dierks throughout the song that will make you chuckle the first time you hear it. This song is, fast, catchy, and rockin, and will def. be a great dance/line dancing song, when you're hitting the bars!

Track 2. Middle of a Memory. This tune immediately reminded me of Frankie Ballard's, "It all started with a beer," however; the twist is there isn't a happy ending. Instead, this song takes the route almost every one of us has taken. It takes place at the bar, where our singer is creating an entire story in his mind about a girl that has caught his eye. He pictures them dancing, and having a great life together, but before he can wrap up his vision and talk to her, she leaves, right in the middle of his memory. A catchy and clever song that is a favorite of mine on the album.

Track 3. Broke Down. "Old School McGraw coming out of my doors" is what we are greeted with on this track. Our story talks about a man pulling over his truck broke down, but as the song continues, it's revealed that it isn't his truck that's broken down, instead it's him. We have all been in the situation, we are listening to the radio or a cd, and we hear a song that just reminds us of a painful break up from a former lover. Broke Down sounds more like a Luke Bryan song than it does than a Cole Swindell song, but he still sings it great, and it's not a bad song by any means! It's not my favorite on the album, but to be fair, I'm also not going through a break up!

Track 4. Home Game. I LOVE this song. This song will give you a great sense of nostalgia, and a feeling of homesickness. I was able to put myself right back in my hometown of Williamstown WV, listening to this track. Cole sings about the glory days of hometown sports teams, and reminiscing the past. The lyrics "Gone in a flash" and "pictures to prove" took me back to 2004, when old timers would tell me, "enjoy it now, because before you know it, it's all gone, and I would go back in a heartbeat to do it all over again." I never understood what they were talking about at 17-18 years old, but looking back at it now, it all makes sense. Love this song.

Track 5. Up. This is probably my least favorite song on the album. For me, it just felt somewhat, flat. By no means is it a bad song, I just couldn't get into it. It does remind me of a Florida Georgia Line song, and it does make a reference to my birth state of New Jersey, but overall, I feel like this track missed the mark.
Track 6. Party wasn't over. Again, this track for me also fell flat. I'm usually not a fan of repeated lyrics right in a row, and this song is guilty of this. I couldn't find myself getting into the song, but I will say, it IS catchy! Party wasn't over, will get stuck in your head, and is a good song to have in the background while enjoying a cold beer.

Track 7. Stay Downtown. All too many times, country music tends to repeat itself. Stay downtown is very similar to Jake Owen's," Alone with you", Jerrod Nieman's "What do you want", or Easton Corbin's, "Clockwork," with the theme of a girl playing head games with her ex-boyfriend, where she goes out all night, then shows up to his door step at the end of the night, looking for that regrettable one night stand. A nice change of pace however; as this song is more upbeat, and has the Cole Swindell sound we have all come to know from him. I think if this song is released as a single, it has major potential to get within top 12.

Track 8. You Should be here. What is there to say about this track that hasn't already been said? Already hitting #1, it tells the sad story of his father passing. How he wishes he could still see him, and how he could be there to enjoy his success so far in his music career. Cole has told numerous outlets that you should be here isn't just his song and his story, but can be for anyone suffering loss, or missing someone. Do yourself a favor, if you haven't seen the music video to this single yet, go check it out. He brings a video crew to his father's grave, as it's his first time visiting his grave since going on tour. It's a touching video to go with such a powerful song.

Track 9. Stars. Stars is another take you back type song. A nice reminiscent song, about finding and falling in love, and reminds me of the corny pickup lines guys use to try and win over girls. It's a very catchy upbeat song that you will find yourself cruising around and enjoying. I think this song could have potential to go top ten in radio as well.

Track 10. Making my way to you. This track is a GREAT track. Tells the story of falling in love, and all the turns and mistakes it took to get there, similar to Darius Rucker's "This." Guys, if you're married, have a girlfriend or fiancé, or maybe going on date five or six, this is a great song to play to earn some brownie points. Get ready to find yourself going back to this track again and again. I think this song has the best shot at going #1 as a radio single.

Track 11. No can left behind. This cd I had three favorite songs, Track 1, track 8, and now this track! Obviously playing off the quote, "No man left behind," you will find yourself with a smile the whole time this song plays. If you're a fan of early 90's country songs, then you will LOVE this song! When I first heard this song, I started thinking, "who does this remind me of? " Finally on the third listen I figured it out, Joe Diffie! If you are starting to work on your tailgate playlist for this summer, do yourself a favor and add this one!

Track 12. Remember boys. The final track on the cd, and it leaves you with a positive message. It is advice for all those young men out there on how to be a man. It tells you how to be a gentleman, treat a lady, and be a good person. As a wedding dj, I often get asked, "what are some good mother son songs to dance to?" I will now recommend this song from here on out! Great song, great message, and a great way to end his second album.

Overall thoughts and score: "You should be here", has way more memorable songs than it does forgettable songs. I think my favorite thing about this cd is the nostalgia I felt listening to each track. It had the ability to take me back in time again and again. This cd was released at the perfect time, because it has a great summer time vibe to it, and you will find yourself all summer going back to this one, enjoying summer afternoons and nights. Not including the track, "You should be here" I think this cd has five or six songs that could easily break top 12 on the charts and a few that will easily hit #1. You should be here is a roller coaster album. From fun songs, to laid back cruising around songs, to nostalgia, and your more serious songs, you will find yourself feeling all sorts of emotions, and enjoying memories thanks to each song on the album. It's a journey you take with Cole Swindell, and it's a great second album. I give it a four out of five stars, a must have for any country fan! ~Crockett

Our first Wedding Anniversary!

So Tara and I just back from our first wedding anniversary. We went to cove haven in the Pocono, and let me tell you, we had a GREAT TIME! Tara said it best, "I feel like we are rockstars here." First, your room is four floors! Floor one, your couch TV and fireplace. Then you go to the second floor. On this floor, you have your OWN HEATED POOL! Yes, you read that right, your own heated pool. Then in that same room, you go down a small flight of stairs, and you have a massage table and your own sauna! Back up the stairs, and up another flight of steps you will find to your right, your bed room, with lighted ceilings, and another big screen TV. Go across the room and to the left, your master bathroom, with shower. The shower has two seat built into it, and you also have your own mini fridge. Now you walk through the bathroom, and you go into yet ANOTHER room. This room is the Champagne glass room. Oh, did I forget to mention, there is a GIANT CHAMPAGNE GLASS, in the middle of your room that doubles as a Jacuzzi? Well its there, and it over looks your entire room!

Seriously, this room was one of the coolest places I have stayed in! Not only that, but we had the package that included, Champagne, and glasses, and when we walked into the room, there was fresh rose petals throughout the entire room. I said to myself, "No way this could get better," but you guessed it, it did! Both your breakfast AND dinner is included! They have a shuttle that picks you up and take you back to your room so you can go to the bar and not have to worry about getting back safe and sound!

While we were there we enjoyed a comedy show, live band and dj's on both nights! Plus, your out in the Pocono. which means wild life. One morning I opened the blinds, only to be greeted by a family of deer just hanging out! They also have an indoor mini golf course, and archery! There is really something for everyone.

One day, we went for a walk, and on our walk, we discovered, we could have had our wedding there, and it would have been BEAUTIFUL! The pictures you could get from the hotel would be breath taking! I kid you not, if you are looking for a venue to get married, or looking for a romantic getaway, go check them out! We will defiantly be back, and I can't recommend them enough!

I can't read a ruler, and I watch in envy as my buddy build everything

Somehow I went 29 (going on 30) years without learning how to read a ruler.  Yes you read that correctly.  I can't read a ruler.  I do know how to build things, and use power tools, however all my creations come out crooked and uneven due to not knowing how to read a ruler.  Now my buddy Matt, he CAN read a ruler, and is extremely handy with tools.  He has his own shop that he build all sorts of things: Furniture, racks, tables, even a dog bath stand!   I stand back and watch him make money out of nature, and think to myself, "Just learn how to read a ruler, and make some money!"

If you want to check out my buddies store, here is the link! https://www.etsy.com/shop/churchtimbers

I would be at my weight goal, if it wasn't for the weekends.

Since the end of Februrary I made the goal that I needed to get down to 200lbs.  Not lose 200 lbs, but to weigh 200lbs!   I was hovering around 228-230, and I figured a good date would be by my 30th birthday, April 19th. I do very well during the week.  I eat clean, drink plently of water, and WHEN the weather is nice out (not that often in NEPA) I go for walks!   I SHOULD be at 200 lbs by now, if it wasn't for these dag gone weekends!

Once the weekends hits, Im talking Budweisers, pizza, and wings.  It's like a rainstorm.  I can see its coming on the radar, but I can't stop it.  Well, I could stop it with some more will power, but its the weekend, and its pizza, and its beer, and its wings.  However; April 19th is quickly approaching, and now its time to start cracking down.

Can I do it?  Maybe.  Just keep the beer and junk food out of sight!

Head is a tad sore this morning...

While doing chores last night, I about gave myself a concussion.  It all happened while doing dishes.  You may ask yourself, "Crockett, how on Earth do you almost give yourself a concussion doing dishes?"  Well, I had the dishwasher door ajar (how about that for a word!) and right before I closed the door, I dropped a knife on floor.  I bent over quickly to pick it up, but one problem.  My gigantic head, well actually my face smashed off the door of the dishwasher, about knocking me unconscious.

Q&A turns into wrestling talk!

So today (3/08/16) Holy Rosary elementary had me come in to read to 4th 5th and 6th graders.  After I was finished reading, we did a Q&A session.  I was told earlier, try and lean questions towards the importance of reading and writing.  I said, "no problem," and was doing a great job of it.... until.   A student asked me, "Did you always want to be in radio?"  I told them no, and the next question asked was, "What did you want to be growing up?"  I told them a pro wrestler.

At this time, all the boys quietly to themselves cheered, and immediately following, was ten hands all shooting up in the air.  All of those hands had one topic in mind.  Pro wrestling.  The Q&A session went from reading, writing and radio, to WWE talk.  The teacher tried to get it back on the rails, but the damage was done.  I loved every minute of it!
