So, I'm not much of a techie geek but I smashed my iPhone a few weeks ago (a common habit of mine) and instead of buying a new iPhone 4, I figured I'd wait for the rumored iPhone 5 to come out... Apparently, Otterbox (a basically indestructible case) is too... So much so that AT&T posted an option to purchase the Otterbox for iPhone 5. One problem, they forgot to remove the iPhone 5 BEFORE taking the picture. Oops! Looks cool, though! :-)
And with that comes the need for formal dresses. How are you supposed to suck it all in and squeeze into these dresses with all the festive drinks and amazing food served at these parties, though? You may not need to worry about it because a new dress will have you looking 2 sizes slimmer! It features panels on each side that make you look more narrow, yet curvier in all the right areas. Actress, Kate Winslet, was seen sporting one earlier this month (see pic below). Hers sells for nearly $1,600! However, Bebe makes their version of the dress for $69! Check it out here.
I was invited to a party "in the sticks" this weekend. Turns out it was an Oktoberfest, of sorts. John and Debbie, who threw the party, dressed in German garb and asked everyone to bring a different type of beer... As a beer fan, this was one of the most fun parties I've ever been to and in my mind, there was a clear winner- JALAPENO BEER! Delicious! Mexican food spicy. YUM!
Wow. Have you heard Martina McBride's "I'm Gonna Love You Through It" yet? As a cancer advocate and someone who speaks to survivors, this song speaks to the core of "healing" - relying on the love and support of your friends and family to "get you through it." Watching this video, which features some pretty kick-ass tough women, I was transported back to 18, watching my mom struggle with the daily trials of having cancer and doing my best to be the love and support she needed.
Robin Roberts from "Good Morning America" is featured in the video. She is, hands down, at the top of my "inspirational women" list! Please take a moment to watch the clips below. Also remember to love on those that you do because whether it's cancer or another struggle, your encouragement may be just what they need to get through it!
My parents have been on my mind a lot lately. I actually took the time to look up this video this morning because it reminds me of dancing on my dad's feet, listening to it on vinyl. Good memories! Enjoy! :-)
I think it all stems back to my very first, very Polish boyfriend, who had little body hair... There's something about a lot of chest hair that kind of skeeves me out. Well, "a lot" is the understatement of the year when it comes to the mounds Eric Petersen has (See pic below). HA! I've been begging him to let me wax it for years (I wanted to be a cosmetologist) and I've finally found the perfect excuse... to help a fellow co-worker! :-)
As you know, Selena is competing in Dancing with the NEPA Stars on Friday. If Selena wins, Eric's chest hair goes! That's a win for everyone involved! The only way for Selena to take home the trophy, though, is with your vote. So, please vote here... for the sake of bare chests everywhere.
I was talking about it yesterday... How beautiful NEPA is! I've lived here my entire life and although I venture off the beaten path from time to time, I got lost on Saturday - really lost. I was headed out to Lake Wallenpaupack to spend some time on my friend's boat. Who knew you can't simply "do a lap" around the lake? As I quickly found out, though, there's a reason for that - so you can experience great little towns like Hamlin! If you have some time to kill this weekend, go get "lost." You never know what sorts of fun little towns you'll find.
So, I gave in and bought the new Sally Hansen nail stickers. I spent about minutes in my office trying to figure out why they weren't sticking correctly. Apparently, I wasn't taking off the top coat like I was supposed to. After 4 wasted stickers (they give you extras), I'm happy with the results!
Ladies, super easy once you get the hang of it. :-)
A new website, Babikini.com is selling STRING bikinis for babies! They come in all sorts of colors, including leopard print. They have some parents outraged! To be honest, any sort of bikini on a child makes me a little uncomfortable. Would you buy this for your baby?
I'll admit it, I really admire/appreciate artists who take to their celebrity platform to raise awareness of a particular cause or simply make you think. Lady Gaga is famous for this. In my opinion, Sugarland does the same thing. Check out the video below to see what I mean. (I can't wait for their show next weekend!)
I was lucky enough to attend the finale of "The Celebrity Apprentice" this weekend. YAY John Rich! Saturday night was the best, though... As we were leaving to go to dinner, a friend of mine spotted Gary Busey... And invited him to dinner! HE TOOK US UP ON THE OFFER! HA!!
The Busey-isms began... He barked at the table, he told dirty jokes, he rubbed my friend's shoulders... Then I did the unthinkable - I asked him to take a picture. He was completely cool about it, at first. Unfortunately, I didn't realize my camera was on video mode. Attempting to correct the issue, he began to pout and then folded his arms and put his head on the table. When someone asked him what was wrong, he screamed, "I JUST DON'T WANT TO TAKE A PICTURE RIGHT NOW!" ...Then he punched me in the face. Ok, I made up the assault part, but it did cross my mind. HA! What a night! What a character!
Ok, so technically Cheyenne from Gloriana started the trend, but ever since they stopped by the Froggy studios a few weeks ago, I couldn't stop thinking about it... Putting feathers in your hair! I got it done last week and I love them! What do you think? Is this trend here to stay?
Although I was running a little late this morning, I was in an otherwise excellent mood... Until I got to my car. As I opened my door, I noticed a spider dangling from the opening. I freaked out and swatted at it. It's supposed bad luck to kill a spider, but does attempting to kill one bring bad luck too? Apparently, it wasn't the spider's time and he landed IN MY HAIR!!! I didn't notice until driving, when he crawled across my chest! GOOD LORD! Nothing can take your focus off of driving like being spooked by a bug in your car.
I wonder how many "bug related" accidents there are each year...
We talked about it on the show today... J.Crew's latest ad. It features a mom and son... One problem, the little boy's toenails were painted pink. I think it's adorable and don't find a problem with it. However, it's creating tons of controversy and many of you who weighed in pointed out that "nail polish is for girls." What are your thoughts?
You know the music that plays when you walk into a concert before the opening act goes on? Who picks that stuff? The artists? Apparently, that's the case with Sugarland. Here's what will be playing when you come to the show at Montage this summer (and Kristian's reason why they picked each song): Phoenix, "1901" Jennifer turned me on to this song and this band. I like the way it sounds in the PA, and we keep threatening to cover this song.
Will Hoge, "Even If It Breaks Your Heart" Will opened for us on a few shows last year, and I think this song says it all. I share his belief that music can save us.
The Psychedelic Furs, "Pretty In Pink" One of their great successes. It even inspired a movie, so it's worth blaring through speakers at a rock show.
Prince, "Alphabet Street" I'm a huge Prince fan, and I like the sound of the drums in this recording.
The Decemberists, "Calamity Song" I just bought this album recently and was excited about how much like R.E.M. it sounded, so I read the liner notes... and realized that Peter Buck from R.E.M. is actually playing on this song. Then I liked the album even more.
Bruce Springsteen, "Born in the U.S.A." Like incense in a Japanese temple, so is Bruce's voice rising out of giant speakers in an arena: preparing the room for what is coming.
INXS, "Need You Tonight" The pieces of this song work like a perfect machine. An apt set-up for the night.
Madness, "Our House" This CD got stolen from my dorm room when I was 16 and I never found out who took it. I loved this song.
The Police, "So Lonely" This has timed out to be the song I hear every night when I'm walking down the hallway to the stage. I remember learning every note and every drum fill as a teen. It taught me so much, and it sounds great loud.
The Cure, "Just Like Heaven" Jennifer and I got on a Cure listening spree in our headphones on the way back from London. This band is so incredibly good and this song is a great example.
Dierks Bentley (with the Punch Brothers, feat. Del McCoury), "Pride (In The Name Of Love)"What's not to like here? Some of the best bluegrass musicians around, Dierks, and a U2 anthem. If you don't own this album (Up on the Ridge), you should.
Sara Bareilles, "Uncharted" Sara will be on tour with us in the second half of this year. She's a great writer, singer, and player. This is one of my favorite cuts on her new album.
Exchange! Exchange! Exchange! Ever been in the predicament of receiving a gift card to a place you really hate? I have a solution - turning those gift cards into cold, hard cash. Speaking of "exchanging," how about turning your old gadgets into cash, as well? Oh, and what to do with your new-found fortune? How about some new decor?Check out all the links below.
As I was watching the Grammy's with you on Sunday, some of my commentary about how great Miranda Lambert looks got you flustered. (Check out the comments here.) Personally, I think she looks FANTASTIC! Sure, she's a thicker girl (compared to the size 0 celebrities you usually see), but she looks amazingly toned and confident!
Turns out, while we ladies are beating ourselves up to have the perfect body, men are encouraging us to eat a cheeseburger! Check out the picture below. Which body would you most like to have, ladies? Now guess which one your man is most attracted to...
If you said you'd most like to be a 1, 2 or 3, you're in the majority. Check this out, though - MEN were asked what body type most fits their "ideal" girl - the majority of answers landed at 5, 6 and 7! How frustrating to know we put in all this extra effort to be stick thin and the age old "guys like a little junk in the trunk" rings true!
Ok, so maybe not next door... BUT I've seen a new hottie walking his dog in my neighborhood this weekend (Thank you, spring weather!). As soon as I got home, I had a conversation with my dog that involved us getting on the run around the neighborhood in cute track pants bandwagon until we run into said hottie and make "getting to know you conversation." Knowing my luck, the guy's girlfriend lives in my neighborhood and he's walking her dog... HA! Stay tuned.
Ladies, I went shopping the other day and found a fairly horrifying site - swimsuits are now on full display in the stores! YIKES! How are you supposed to want to diet and exercise when the cold weather just makes you want to hole up and eat? Ha.
I say find a motivational swimsuit. I think I found mine.
I LOVE this one! And, like the rest I'm about to discuss, it's ON SALE! Check out the list of swimwear deals and steals below!
*JC Penney- Most swimsuits are $20+ off! Check 'em out online or in stores! Great selection, flattering styles.

Here we are almost an entire month into the new year... Have you broken your New Year's Resolution yet? I didn't really even bother starting! HA. However, one of the most popular resolutions is to save money. I've got help for you! If you're looking for ways to cut down those credit card bills, check out the following websites:
*BillShrink.com - a free service that provides users with personalized recommendations credit cards. There's also a service that can monitor your cell phone usage and recommend a plan for you.

Hope this helps! Again, if you have an tips, pass them along!
I'll admit it, I'm the "thrifty" one on the staff. Sure, my co-workers make fun of me for it, but at the end of the month, who has more (beer) money? HA! I'd like to let you in on the saving fun, so each Thursday, you'll be able to check back here for money saving tips, tricks and sales. Oh, and if you come across any, please let me know about them - JessieRoberts@Froggy101.com. :-) Enjoy!
I'm a big fan of redoing my house. I have a ton of furniture from IKEA and some really cool carpets and although my place looks trendy (Even Crockett told me so!), it was relatively inexpensive to do. One project that I have yet to tackle is the bathroom... Although, it really needs to be done! If you're in the same boat, this is the weekend to start!
*One of my favorite tips is to grab any website you find a deal on and get a better deal by going to Google and typing in "discount codes." For example, for an additional 20% off on your Home Depot sale, seach "Home Depot online discount codes."
Good luck redoing the bathroom! Here's to being "thrifty!"
Snow totally freaks me out (maybe because I'm an awful driver to begin with), but videos like this don't help... This happened in Seattle. I figured with all the snow we're about to get, it'd be inappropriate not to share. Remember to use your emergency break, everyone!
I hope you don't have an iPhone! Did you experience the Y2K11 glitch? Anyone who set an individual alarm (vs. a recurring one), simply didn't have the alarm go off. Thank God I'm one of those people who sets an alarm on the weekends because I experienced the issue on Saturday... If you don't, chances are you were late for work today. Yikes! Did it screw up your life? How dependant we are on technology...
I'm sure you've been to plenty of parties during the holidays. I've noticed that if they aren't catered to a certain group (i.e. - your work party), things can get a little sketchy. Think about it - there are your friends, family, your significant other's family.... Not everyone knows each other. That's when it's time to bring in - the ice breaker! In this case, I made felt mustaches on sticks for my best friend's Christmas party. LOL! They were a huge hit. Hope you had a wonderful Christmas!
Being the "class nerd," I always had a crush on the guy with a tie and glasses (until I entered my football player phase in high school. HA!). They were the guys who had the most potential to grow up and become HOTTIES... However, if you're already a hottie, why revert back to your geeky side? Tim McGraw, please explain...
I've been hanging out with my friends with little ones a ton lately and I have no idea how you parents do it! They're always on the go! Here's a really great invention by a mom in Virginia that's sure to help during the holiday craziness! Check it out - http://www.parkingpalmagnet.com/about.html
You could get all your items shipped for FREE on Free Shippng Day (December 17), with GUARANTEED Christmas Eve delivery! There are more than 1,000 businesses participating. Get the info at FreeShippingDay.com!
Growing up, I wasn't really a "follower," but I did need to have the hottest items for Christmas. Granted, my parents weren't foolish enough to give into my bratty demands... However, you may remember these blasts from the past.
Celebrated my sister's 21st birthday with her this past weekend. Despite my attempt to "teach her everything I know," she held up pretty well... Her friend, however, did not. Here's his picture at the end of the night. LOL!
My "remodeling my house" bug has bitten again. I'm redoing my sister's room this time around. Although it took me three weeks and a ton of paint and plaster to change the light fixture (don't ask), I think the rest of the room turned out pretty good... Check it out! (And yes, I did put together the bed myself... If you've ever put Ikea furniture together, you know what a project that is!)
If you're like me and can't find a bargain if it hit you in the face (yes, even on Black Friday), I'm going to help you save some money this holiday season. I stumbled upon these two websites.... Check 'em out - BFads.com and BlackFriday.net. Happy shopping!
I was talking about this family on the air today. I think they come up with a great idea - the basic concept is that a company will sponsor their t-shirt everyday. Wearing those t-shirts, they'll blog, Facebook, post videos, etc. In addition to the payment for being a tee sponsor, they get to try out a bunch of products for free, as well. What do you think about it? I give 'em props (and am a little jealous I didn't come up with this idea!). :-)
You know in my spare time (the little I get), I like to work on my house. So, having a pretty free weekend, I spent it stripping wallpaper, moving around furniture and selling an old dresser. This morning, my arms were on fire (far better than any lifting I've done at the gym). So, I've decided instead of the gym, I'm now going to start pushing around couches and lifting dressers. :-) I'll get back to you with how this turns out. HA!
It's back! I'm hosting another SINGLES' MINGLE! And better yet, this one is in costume! So, if you've tried the dating websites, tried to have your friends set you up, etc. and it's failed, you need to join me!
Here's the info:
Where: Brews Brothers - River Road, Pittston
When: Friday, October 22, 8-10pm
Details: Each lady who walks through the door gets 3 drink chips to use on the guy/guys of her choice! Who knows, maybe Dracula could be "the one!" See you there! :-)
Trailer Choir's Butter (Marc Fortney) and Carter's Chord's Emily Robertsonwere married in a surprise wedding last Monday. Jake caught me tearing up at this video yesterday and made fun of me! You even see her sisters singing an impromptu version of "To Make You Feel My Love," finding their lyrics on their phone, for the couple's first dance. How romantic!
"The Big C" premiered Monday night and as a cancer research advocate, I came across this link and couldn't wait to share it with you! For every person who watches the trailer for the show, Showtime will donate $1 to the American Cancer Society (up to $25,000)... So, watch and share! Thanks!
We all know how crazy expensive college textbooks can be... So, instead of paying full price for a book you'll open twice (once before the midterm and once before the final), why not rent? Check out this site... www.Chegg.com. My sister got all her books for less than $200 last semester!
If I weren't doing radio, I'd want to be a cosmetologist - SERIOUSLY! I love doing hair and makeup and may or may not waste hours watching how-to videos online. :-) This is the best one I've come across. Sure, this girl has trouble formulating sentences, but she's TALENTED!
So, I can't stop reading "Missed Connections" on Craig's List. Most of them are sweet and romantic and flirty... Then, there's this guy -
Subject: to the big booty gal at (grocery store) - m4w - 30 (edwardsville/kinston)
Message: like the title says you were at redner's supermarket today around 2pm i walked by you. i was the heavy set guy with a blue shirt and an odd hairstyle. you look mighty fine and you have a killer body and a face to match. you were wearing a black tank top and blue jeans that covered all that lovely a**. i know this is a shot in the dark but if you see this email me back with (grocery store) in the subject line. "
If "odd haircut" doesn't sound dreamy, I don't know what does.
Last weekend I was going to a party and was in charge of the Jello shots. Someone told me about coconut ones but even with your help, was unable to find coconut Jello.... However, I did find this recipe, instead. You've been asking for it - so, here it is. Bring these to the next show at Montage Mountain. :-)
_________________________________________________________ Lime in the Coconut Jello Shots
1 package lemon Jello
2 packages lime Jello
2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
1 can coconut milk or juice (Find it at Wegmans)
2 cups coconut rum
2 1/4 cups water
Bring water to the boil and remove from heat. Slowly stir in the 3 Jello packages, then add the water, the coconut milk or juice, and the lime juice. You put the lime in the coconut and mix it all together.Wait 3-4 minutes and stir in the rum. Pour into individual serving sized or plastic shot glasses and chill.
Here's my creation! (I added whipped cream, Gummi Savers and Skittles)... A drunken Martha Stewart, I am. HA!
Apparently EVERYONE needs a day off now and then... So, while Kelly is on vacation, Regis is looking for a radio gal to fill in as his co-host! Listener, Barb, brought this to my attention and the e-mails haven't stopped since! I used to go to the show with my mom all the time as a kid - could you imagine representing NEPA in the co-host chair? Go check out all the details here: http://bventertainment.go.com/tv/buenavista/regisandkelly/contests/cohostsearch10/index.html
As you know it's my workout of choice - it's basically a sexy, Latin dance workout that burns up to 600 calories an hour! If you're a newbie to the idea, check out this great fundraiser this weekend...

That was the question my sister asked me after last night's "Guitars and Stars II". I dread that question because you never know what "comparison" someone will pull... My sister has decided I look like... James Otto! HA! After she made the comparison, my heart kind of sunk. I mean he's good looking - for a man! Ha. Unfortunately, I think she may be right. What do you think??
Joe Nichols will be here next Thursday (5/6) for Guitars and Stars II! Check out the video below to see just how funny this guy is... Not to mention insanely talented! And don't forget to get your tix for Guitars and Stars II here!
Ugh! Sure, we love Spring but that also means swimsuit shopping is right around the corner - every woman's dreaded nightmare. I began the search today and came across SPANX swimsuits. I figured this was genius idea until I saw what they look like (below)! YUCK! I was corrected, however... Some of them are really cute. What do you think of them? http://www.spanx.com/family/index.jsp?cp=3010014&categoryId=3985803&view=all
By the way, can someone please tell me what purpose a SPANX bikini serves? If I'm able to rock a bikini, chances are I wouldn't need SPANX.
So, Relay season is upon us again and as a kickoff, I'm selling Gertrude Hawk candy bars at work. There's not whole lot of work required... I just left them on my desk and sent out an e-mail to our company.
My good deed seems to have repercussions, however. I passed a co-worker in the hallway this morning and after admiring his clothing choice, said "You look handsome today!" His response - "You just want to bribe me to buy a candy bar." HA! I will now also be charging for compliments - all money to go to the American Cancer Society.
I'm in Nashville for the week for a "country radio seminar"... Basically, I get to see some of your favorite artists (today I hung with Jamey Johnson, Josh Turner, Gary Allan, Sugarland, Trailer Choir, Easton Corbin and more!).
When I got back to room, this was waiting on my bed from Taylor Swift!
So, I went speed dating Friday night. I followed the rules and didn't get sloppy drunk (although they DID try to liquor you up with free alcohol beforehand) and didn't hit on Steve from VH1's "Tough Love" (although I did at least take a picture with him (BELOW)). It was actually SO MUCH FUN!!!! I had a total of about 7 or 8 speed dates (3 minutes each) and except for one guy who kept staring into space, all the guys were cute and charming. I couldn't stop looking at one guy across the room, though. He was totally my "type"... Unfortunately, we didn't get a chance to "date."
After the "dates" were over, everyone went to the hotel bar... And there he was, the man of my dreams in Hoboken, NJ. Maybe it was the confidence from successful, charming conversation, or maybe it was the booze (I'd choose this option) but I decided to approach him. I gently grabbed his arm and said, "I know we didn't speed date but I just wanted to let you know I think you're adorable." He seemed warm and receptive... Until he started hitting on my friend!!! Then he asked for her number right in front of me! Seriously, buddy? Looks like I'll be single for a while...
10. Don't get drunk and sloppy - for your own sake!
The night will be so much fun and we can't wait to help you find LUV!
We'll have hair touch up stations, courtesy of got2b, and fragrance
spritzers, thanks to Swingle, a new scent with pheremones by Michael Todd
Cosmetics, for last minute style boosters! Great swag bags of the ultimate
dating tools, too!
If you Twitter, please use the hashtag: #FindaLuvah
And definitely, stay after and hang out at The Chandelier Room upstairs -
it's so chic and sexy.
Next to this woman! A woman attending art classes at the "Metropolitan Museum of Art," lost her balance and crashed into a Picasso, tearing it! Oops! Who hasn't ever lost their balance, though? All I can say is "Thank God it wasn't me!"
By the way, does anyone even see the tear in this picture? I sure don't!
Wishing harm on them? WOW! Ha. Tell me what you think of this... It's called "Pray For You" from Jaron and the Long Road to Love (Yes, the same Jaron from Evan and Jaron who sang "Crazy for this Girl").
We're setting a world record!! If you're looking to find "the one," or simply out to meet new single ladies, here's your chance... The world's largest speed dating event! It all happens January 29 in Hoboken, NJ and you can be a part of it. They're looking for single guys, so sign up here -  www.purplelabnyc.com/speeddating. Let me know if you'll be attending! I'll see you there. It's a date! :-)
It's no secret that I love to travel. Heck, my best friend lives in Nashville... It gives me an excuse. :) Besides, that's what your 20s are for, aren't they? If you're like I am, you've been stuck in an airport a time or two. (The Philly airport hates me! The feeling is mutual. Ha.) Here's how some creative travelers passed the time after being stuck in Newark...
That was some life advice from my dad last night! Ha! I've told you all the stories about what a character my dad is, but as I get older and reach an age where we learn to appreciate our parents a little more, I also think it's equally important to appreciate their quirks.
Last night, we went out to dinner for my sister's birthday... to a hibachi joint, where he felt completely out of place. He made the most of the dinner, though, and when we got back to the house, he asked me to teach him "how to Facebook." HA! Impossible task. He gave up and searched "our song" - "Secret Agent Man." This was the song I would dance on his feet to when I was 6 years old. That moment, that small thoughtful gesture was one of those moments that forever strengthens the bond between two people - especially a dad and his little girl. So, no dad, don't worry, I won't date a bum... I want to date someone as loving and thoughtful as you are!
Ok, I did it! I attempted to battle the Black Friday crowds. Although I ran into a bunch of Froggy fans, I didn't conquer many deals! Booo! So, this brings us to Cyber Monday - the day where you're supposed to find great deals online. Still no success on my part. I give up. I can't find a deal for the life of me.
If you're like me, check out www.ExtraBux.com. It's a price matcher that will notify you if the item you purchased goes on sale or is found on another site at a different price. Taking the work out of shopping! I LOVE IT! Good luck!
We're all aware technology is taking over the world and chances are you spend a good part of your day glued to Facebook... Just be careful about what you post online - you wouldn't want to become one of these people! HA!! Oh, and while you're at it, go see the nonsense I post online - Find me at "Facebook.com/JRoFroggy101".
There's nothing like meeting someone with manners (okay, maybe someone who's old-fashioned and has manners, but beggars can't be choosers). I discovered this morning, however, that there is one mannerly thing that actually makes someone else's life more complicated - door holding. No, really! Think about it!
Here was this morning's instance... I went to Panera Bread for breakfast (their breakfast sandwich is out of this world!) and on my way out the door, I noticed a woman walking behind me with a cup of coffee in her hands. She was quite a ways behind me but I decided to hold the door anyway. Usually when this happens, people step up their pace nearly falling. In this case, the woman continued her steady pace and veered to the left as though she was going to use the other door. So, I let mine go, which ended up slamming her face. Classy! I think we've all been there with the door holding situation, so my advice to you is this - unless someone is directly in front of or behind you, it's best to let them operate their own door. Otherwise, things just get confusing.
This is a text I got from a friend after I told my "sentimental collector" story on the air today.
In case you missed it, here goes - My parents were pack-rats growing up... I, on the other hand, only hang on to things that I think have sentimental value. Sure, I save more than most but don't save everything. Remodeling my house and being tight on cash caused me to part with a sentimental piece, over the weekend - an old dresser and nightstand that I've had since I was a little girl. Granted, the formerly white paint was yellowed, the hinges were now creaky and I had removed the mirror to hang on my wall, but still - it was mine.
I ended up selling the set on Craig's List to a really nice woman for her daughter, Riley. The little girl was SO EXCITED about it! Then, I received an e-mail about it yesterday... The mom was asking for "before" pictures of the set because they painted it blue (BLUE?!) and wanted to compare the before and after pics. She attached a few of the "after pictures". Can you believe I couldn't bring myself to open them because it would confirm it was no longer the white dresser I came to know and love my entire life? Ha. Pathetic or understandable? You tell me...
I'm SO HAPPY to be home! Don't get me wrong, I love Nashville but it was a long week! Plus, while in Nashville for the CMA Awards, I found new ways to embarrass myself...
Literally, as soon as my plane touched down, I cabbed it to a hotel, dropped my stuff, changed my clothes and headed to dinner. This was a super fancy dinner, mind you (much nicer than I'm used to), hosted by my friend, Jordan. I was late considering I got into town so late, so I couldn't find their room in the restaurant. I called Jordan and he tried to explain where they were situated. Just as he was explaining, I looked to my left and saw a man crouched down. Assuming it was him on the phone, I opened the door to this private party... I didn't recognize one face in the room (except Kid Rock - REALLY!!) and realized this was not the party I was invited to. To make matters worse, the entire room was seated enjoying a nice quiet dinner so they ALL looked at me when the door opened. I exclaimed, "I'm totally in the wrong party! I'm SO SORRY!" They all laughed hysterically and I scooted. I was completely embarrassed but let's be honest, how many people can say they've crashed Kid Rock's party??
The date is quickly approaching - my best friend's bachelorette party. UGH! I'm excited for the party but not excited about fitting into my costume. Ladies, I'm sure you can relate to the extra "love" we have a habit of putting on during the cool/cold months. Well, as we near the end of October, I've lost my tan, gained 10 lbs. and my arms are in need of some serious weight training again. Ha. I workout and eat relatively healthy in order to maintain my health, but I'll never understand those people who take it to the extreme.
Needless to say, after packing on some pre-winter weight, my Halloween costume is a bit tight for the party. In an attempt to feel super confident, I decided to watch what I eat pretty strictly all week. This morning I made myself a "healthy snack" of peanut butter on celery. Whoever came up with the idea of this being a tasty snack has clearly never had a slice of pizza. YUCK! So, instead, I've decided to invest in a mean pair of Spanx! Happy Halloween!
Apparently you do too! After countless hours of gathering pink stuff, we filled Southside Bowl in Scranton for our Second Annual "Strike Out Breast Cancer". Talking to survivors and those who have had cancer affect their lives or the lives of loved ones was an unforgettable experience. To me, this is all a part of the healing process, after losing my mom to cancer when I was 18. Thanks to you, NEPA, we presented the American Cancer Society with $5,452! INCREDIBLE! This will help in the fight to one day put an end to cancer deaths. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Be proud!
I know you don't want to think about it but the holidays are almost here! AHHHH! Don't hate me, but I've already done most of my Christmas shopping. I feel like it's easier to get most of it out of the way before the rush. I also came across a great site where you can not only buy gifts for your loved ones but 10% of every purchase is donated to a charity of your choice! The site is GiftBack.com and the cards read something like:
Merry Christmas, Jane! Love, Jessie
A portion of this gift was donated to The American Cancer Society
What a COOL, selfless idea! GiftBack.com
P.S. - You can see some of their items featured at "Strike Out Breast Cancer 2" at Southside Bowl in Scranton next Sunday (10/18)!
I love my dad but he drives me CRAZY! In his mind, he can fix EVERYTHING! One small problem, he refuses to spend any money to do so. My house is a fixer-upper, to say the least, but it's coming along nicely. I've put a lot of time into fixing the things I can and a lot of money into fixing the things I can't do myself.
One exception that I lose sleep over at night is my bathroom. It's a pretty room but it's outdated and the shower is nothing but problems. Whoever my parents hired to put in the tub and inner walls must've hated them. HA! There's caulking all up and down the walls but I'm pretty sure none between the actual wall and the tub wall because water has begun to seep underneath and the wall now has water damage. It makes me sick looking at it. I was talking to my dad, last night, about replacing it before Christmas. He told me to hold off because he could "easily fix it for a tenth of the price." After 23 years, I've caught onto his "do it yourself scheme" but for some reason (maybe to make my blood pressure shoot through the roof), I always ask how he plans on doing that. His proposal for this project - "I'll just get a piece of plastic baseboard and glue it to the part where the water has seeped in." AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Really, men? Why is it SO HARD to spend a few extra bucks to get a job done right (and save your daughter's sanity)? In the meantime, if you know someone in construction who's willing to take on the project in my bathroom, please send 'em my way before my dad pulls out the baseboard. :-)
P.S. - The fact that I'm not alone makes me feel better about this ordeal. This is not my bathroom but it may as well be with the way my dad "fixes" things. (Check out ThereIFixedIt.com)
If you missed it, yesterday on the show, I was talking about mastering an electric screwdriver! It was a big day in my world when I was able to hang the rack that holds my clothes in my closet (because I have way too many!) BACK up after it fell. The biggest accomplishment was not drilling through my finger with it.
Ladies, fear the power tool no more because they now come in PINK!!! Yep, anything you can imagine from jumper cables to sanders and hacksaws - ALL in pink thanks to a company called Tomboy Tools. The fun doesn't stop there, though! As you know, working on my home has been a work in progress that has been taking up a bunch of my time for the past 6 months and Tomboy Tools is there to help! Whether you need to know how to fix drywall or master certain painting techniques, they've got you covered! They even have tool parties (like jewelry parties and purse parties you've attended in the past, minus the wasted money because you'll actually come away with ways to improve your home.). Can you tell I'm really excited about this company? Ha.
The best part of all, everyone at Tomboy Tools is active in the community and has set up a Hammer Out Breast Cancer Campaign! In fact, you'll have a chance to win a hammer autographed by Melissa Etheridge at "Strike Out Breast Cancer" at Southside Bowl in Scranton next Sunday (10/18).
Just think, it's football season, so not a whole is going to get done around the house unless YOU do it, so, check 'em out now - TomboyTools.com!
Yesterday was a day that forever changed me... and my wallet. Taking on my "non-cool kid" status in high school, it's easy for me to recall the last time I attended a Halloween party - when I was 14! CRAZY - I know!! However, now that I've accepted being a little left of center (and making friends with that in common), I am proud to tell you I will be attending Halloween festivities this year! :-) My best friend, Nikki (the one who's getting married), is planning on celebrating her Bachelorette Party on 10/30 so it requires a costume... I decided on the Queen of Hearts. (Let's be honest, for adults, Halloween is an excuse to play dress up.)
I got my costume a week ago and was THRILLED! It was relatively inexpensive, cute and just needed a few accessories - a tutu-like skirt and some stockings. Now, as of yesterday, this is where I've decided the costume shops get ya - my tutu-like skirt was $30!! Figuring I could find a better deal online, I searched high and low last night and found it for $25... C'mon! It was more expensive than the costume itself. So, with that, I bought that $25 tutu, decided that Nikki won't be getting as nice a gift as originally anticipated and you can now see me wearing my $25 tutu at every "Up Close and Personal" show you attend... Hey, I've gotta rationalize the price somehow! Ha. Happy shopping!
You know I'm a football fan... You also know I'm a cancer advocate... So, the fact that the NFL has gone pink for the month of October has me ecstatic! In an effort to raise awareness, all month long, you can catch your favorite players sporting pink on their uniforms and shoes, along with pink armbands, gloves and helmets. You can get in on the action too!! They've set up a site where you can score some of this pink merchandise and they've even signed it... All money raised goes to the American Cancer Society! Check out the auction site here - http://www.nflauction.nfl.com/
One of my favorite things is when artists cover songs of other genres (only when they're done well, of course!). Luke Bryan has a new CD coming out on Tuesday and as I was driving home yesterday, I popped it in and got lost in a particular song that I was very familiar with... When it hit the chorus, I knew what was up - Luke took on Timbaland and One Republic's "Apologize"! SO COOL! Below is a live video of it. The quality isn't great but you get the gist. Check out the album for the real version, though. It's FANTASTIC (the cover of the song and the album... And his teeth!) :-)
I pride myself on being a good gift giver! So, when my best friend announced she was getting married in Jamaica in December, I knew my gift had to be nothing short of spectacular! I thought it would be fitting to go with the beach theme and came across these...
Take a look around the rest of the site if you have a friend getting married too! GREAT gifts!
Negative people are obnoxious. You seriously can't find one positive thing about your day? I'm going to put it right out there - I've had a few "off" days recently - I haven't been able to breathe through my nose which has given me a killer unending migraine. But, for the most part, I try my best to find positives in negative situations. So, instead of complaining, why not shop? Ha!
Searching Amazon.com for the perfect Halloween costume (another blog for tomorrow), I think I finally found it! And as far as I was concerned, entering 16 glorious digits in a tiny white box seemed to be working better than any Excedrine Migraine I had been taking recently. So, there it was, a seemingly perfect cure for my "off day"
... Then Amazon had to go and mess with it! The next screen was the confirmed purchase/ thank you/ recommendation screen... My recommendations - a child's tv show, pet urine remover and pore refining toner. Really? Even Amazon thinks I'm a loser today... Womp womp womp.
Amazon thinks I'm childish, smell like pee and have big pores...
You would think a weekend in a city like Chicago with 12 crazy girls would lead to trouble. Instead, it offered a great life lesson.
My best friend, Stacy (the one who lives in Nashville), turned 26 last week, so we gathered 12 girls to head "The Windy City" for some shopping and birthday celebration fun. While we were all at dinner Saturday night, we noticed an adorable couple in the corner of the restaurant. Holding hands, laughing, telling stories, the gleam in their eyes made it obvious they were absolutely smitten. It was as though they were in a new relationship but we knew this was not the case because they were both wearing wedding rings... And they were in their early 70s.
Stacy soon excused herself from the table and when she returned, quietly whispered to me that she had paid their bill. The adorable elderly woman made her way over to our table to thank us and exclaimed, "That was nicer than someone giving up their seat on the bus!"
If you want to see 12 girls left speechless, this is the exact way to do it. Saturday night, it was confirmed that my best friend is a kind, thoughtful friend who I can learn great lessons from... One of them being that paying it forward is a great way to thank someone for showing you great things still exist in love and the world.
I get it - you're probably sick of hearing about the whole Taylor/Kanye ordeal like I am but I found this parody and it's pretty funny... What's even funnier is this guy had it posted EARLY Monday morning. Yep, he was able to write a song AND record it within HOURS of the show. And I thought I was an overachiever... You're making me look bad, dude!
